Malaysia 1000 aims to rank and identify country’s top corporations

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — The main objective of the fourth edition of Malaysia 1000 is to rank and identify the country’s top 1,000 corporations, said chairman of BASIS Group of Companies, Tan Sri Abu Hassan Omar.

“The directory contains comprehensive information on the cream of Malaysian companies covering a wide range of corporate and industrial sectors,” he said at the launch of the Malaysia 1000 by Minister of International Trade and Industry, Datuk Mustapa Mohamed here today.

In his speech, Mustapa said the book is very informative and comprehensive.

He also said the government will not sideline local investments although it has been promoting foreign investments in the country.

Mustapa urged Malaysian companies in the services sector, such as those involved in the consultancy services to export their services overseas.

“There are already a number of successful Malaysian companies venturing overseas,” he said.

The directory is a joint project of Basis Publications House Sdn Bhd, a member of Basis Group of Companies, Bernama, the national news agency of Malaysia, and Malaysia External Trade Development Corp.

Among the winners of Malaysia 1000 Awards are Petroliam Nasional Bhd, Dell Asia Pacific, Sime Darby Bhd, Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Telekom Malaysia Bhd, Malayan Banking Bhd, Malaysian Airline System Bhd and Sony EMCS (M) Sdn Bhd.

Return on Capital Employed Award went to Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd;while Return on Shareholders’ Fund Award went to Bredero Shaw (M) Sdn Bhd;

The percentage increase in profit Award was given to  Meiban Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd; and the Industry Excellence Award went to Lingui Developments Bhd, Sapuracrest Petroleum Bhd, Swan Malaysia Sdn Bhd, UMW Corp Sdn Bhd, Edaran Otomobil Nasional Bhd, Universal Cable (M) Bhd, Plus Expressways Bhd, Celcom (M) Bhd, UEM Builders Bhd, Nam Cheong Dockyard Sdn Bhd, AMMB Holdings Bhd, and Alam Flora Sdn Bhd. — Bernama
