International banks allowed to provide micro-credit financing

IPOH, July 12 — The Finance Ministry has allowed international banks operating in Malaysia to provide micro-credit financing, said Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.

He said each of the banks would be allowed to open 10 branches nationwide for the purpose.

“This policy was approved by the Finance Ministry recently and I have been made to understand that the micro-credit financing centres will be made available soon. The move is aimed at helping small players grow their businesses,” he told reporters after handing over the keys to Medan Klebang Restu Jamek mosque here today.

He said this move was an additional bonus to the RM150 million allocated to the TEKUN fund to assist small entreprenuers as announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday.

Ahmad Husni is also the Member of Parliament for Tambun. – Bernama
